St More Juniors FC in UK Resources Directory

St. More Juniors F.C was founded in may 2006 by RAY and JACKIE BERRY with the help of a few parents. At this present time we have 7 teams starting the 200708 season. Leonard Joseph Reed was born in Bermondsey on 30th September 1929. He married Maureen in 1957 and they moved to Welling with son Andrew 3 years later and soon after daughter Jackie was born. Maureen was his devout wife for 46 years until she sadly passed away 4 years ago. Son Andrew belonged to the Boys Club St Thomas More. The club ran a couple of largely unsuccesful football teams in the late 60s that Andrew played in and Len gave some support to these. In 1972 Len took over the football side of things at the Club and with his eye for a player assembled the first of many crack under 10 teams. This team included Andy Townsend who went on to enjoy a long and succesful professional career. Subsequent S.T.M teams included such players as Neil Razor Ruddock, Gavin Peacock, Kevin Horlock, Ben Thatcher and Muzzey Izzet all of whom went on to professional level. Throughout the 70s and 80s St Thomas More teams of under 10s to under 15s won countless league titles, league cups and KentLondon cups. Lens teams even regularly won national tournaments such as the Isle of Wight Festival and international tournaments including the Dallas Cup and Canadian Cup. The teams were packed with District and County players and were feared by opposition at every level of the junior game. The phone at home would constantly ring with scouts from professional clubs vying for boys from Lens teams to join their clubs. Lens daughter Jackie and son in law Ray have in the last few years established their own junior football club, naming the club St. More Juniors in Lens honour. They are proud to be providing football for many boys of all abilities in the area. They are however not under the misconception that they could ever be as succesful as St Thomas More FC and the legendary Len Reed.
